A new monthly lifestyle event aimed at celebrating creativity, community and local enterprise has made its debut in Maun, this Sunday. Easy Like Sundays, hosted by Game Reserve Sports Bar, brought together artists, crafters, food vendors and live performers for a relaxed, family-friendly Sunday gathering that organisers hope will become a long-term cultural fixture.
The first edition of the event drew crowds eager to browse handmade crafts, enjoy food from local vendors and soak in live music in a laid-back setting. Families were also part of the experience, with painting lessons designed for children adding a creative touch that underscored the event’s community focus.
One of the standout moments of the event was the introduction of Midnight vibe, whose energetic set brought a lively spark to the gathering. Performing a mix of cover songs and original music alongside local musician Miss Gee, the group’s blend of drums, piano and guitar had the crowd on their feet and added an exciting musical heartbeat to the day.
The venue itself, adorned with murals and paintings by artists such as Jah Works and Sick O, along with additional curated aesthetic pieces, helped tie together the urban lifestyle theme and created a visually striking backdrop for the event. As well as a marketplace with several stalls that brought attendees in contact with the artisans and their work.
Seele Nkate, Managing Director of Pentagon Gaming, the licensed gambling company behind Game Reserve Sports Bar said the event was inspired by a long-standing desire to support local creatives and provide them with a platform that is not commonly available in traditional retail spaces.
Nkate explained that since opening the venue about eight months ago, the team has been learning about the surrounding community and identifying ways to collaborate with artists and entrepreneurs who are building unique products and services. Easy Like Sundays, he said, is the first step toward creating a recurring platform where these creatives can showcase their work while building a sense of community around the venue.
The goal is to host the event on the last Sunday of every month, with plans to grow each edition through partnerships and sponsorships. The inaugural event received sponsorship support from Jack Daniels, a partnership Nkate hopes will expand as the event develops.
Beyond the Sunday market, the venue is preparing for additional creative programming. Nkate confirmed that a fashion and arts event, Pose and Pour, is scheduled for 2 May, signalling a broader strategy to fill the space with internally driven events that prioritise quality control and consistent community engagement.
While Game Reserve Sports Bar continues to operate as a day-to-day social venue where patrons can watch sports, meet friends or enjoy meals, Nkate emphasised that the long-term vision stretches far beyond traditional bar operations. The business is also preparing to launch an online sports betting brand, Chop-Win and Chop-Bet, in May. He said the new digital brand will work closely with the physical venue through shared promotions and community initiatives.
Nkate acknowledged the social responsibilities that come with operating in the gaming and hospitality industries. He noted that the company plans to invest in community awareness programmes addressing issues such as problem gambling and responsible drinking, working alongside key stakeholders to mitigate potential risks while creating new economic opportunities in the region.
Looking ahead, Nkate envisions Game Reserve Sports Bar evolving into a social hub at the heart of Maun. He hopes the space will eventually be known not only as a sports bar or betting venue, but as a gathering place where music, art, food and social interaction thrive daily.
“We want this to be a space where people meet, share ideas and bring their own events,” he said. “A place where local artists and informal markets can shine while the community connects.”
If the energy of the first Easy Like Sundays is any indication, the event may be on its way to becoming a staple of Maun’s cultural calendar.
