As part of the ongoing Botswana Police service and Botswana Defence Force led Operation Pabalesego II, police in Gweta have revealed their readiness in dealing with the issue of law and order during the festive season.
Acting Sation Commander, Assistant Superintendent Segametsi Madome told this publication that numbers of people arriving in Gweta and those using the A3 road are anticipated to dramatically increase starting today (Friday).
Madome said in collaboration with the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) they are ready and prepared to control any situation that may arise. She noted that since Operation Pabalesego II began they have been all out in the streets of Gweta as well as on the roads to ensure safety for all.
“As the week comes to an end, many companies will be closing so we are expecting high numbers of people in Gweta coming to visit friend and relatives,” she said. The assistant superintendent also expects for traffic to increase along the A3 road.
She emphasiszed that these changes which are a norm during the busy festive season then call for their increased presence and surveillance through patrols.
Madome is pleased that the village has been calm in the past recent days as they have not registered any serious crime incidents or road accident. She attributed this to the community outreach programme they have embarked upon to sensitise residents on safety and crime prevention issues.
“We are happy that as we continue to engage with the public the response is positive because they are listening and complying with our safety messages.”
Going into the holidays next week, police have since advised the public to protect their properties, while at the same time ensuring their safety at all times.
Assistant Superintendent Madome advised members of the public not to leave their homes unattended as this poses significant risks ranging from criminal activity to severe property damage. “They should either leave someone at home or inform the neighbours to watch out for them,” she emphasised.
She concluded by advising motorists to drive safely along the A3 road, obey speed limit and be cautious of potholes as well as wild animals. “Because it is raining wild animals often roam the A3 road,” she warned.
