‘Brush And Sup’ To Spotlight Maun’s Growing Art Scene

Date:

Maun’s creative energy is set to take centre stage as Sammy T Creations Hub prepares to host its inaugural “Brush and Sup” event this coming Saturday in Maun. Held under the theme “Paint for a Reason,” the event aims not only to celebrate artistry but also to champion a meaningful social cause.

Event director Sesame Tshoswane says the initiative is designed to strengthen Maun’s art ecosystem by providing a dedicated platform for local creatives. “We want to bring out the art market in Maun and showcase works so that audiences here can be more familiar with the art market and help promote the growth of art in the region,” she shared. Tshoswane added that part of the proceeds will be donated to Lorato House, a children’s rescue shelter under the Love Botswana organisation. “Part of the profits will be going directly to Lorato House in order to help vulnerable children,” she noted, emphasising the event’s community-focused mission.

A diverse lineup of artists and performers will be featured throughout the evening. Attendees can expect expressive poetry sessions, guided by the host of the night, renowned poet and MC Anthxny. The programme also includes drumming demonstrations by Kasane-based performer Mambo Tema, well known for his interactive style that draws audiences into his rhythmic routines.

Visual artists exhibiting their work include Rob Mor, Redecor Crafts, Tshepho Lister and Tlhalefang R-Tistry, presenting a cross-section of craftsmanship that reflects the evolving creative identity of Maun. The painting sessions are structured to encourage participation, offering an opportunity for attendees to connect with artists, explore different styles and experiment with their own creativity.

Beyond the art displays, “Brush and Sup” will incorporate a panel discussion that addresses broader issues affecting the creative sector. According to Tshoswane, the dialogue will “delve into issues of conservation and sustainability and authenticity in your artistry to try and bring great art to the surface.” The session will also explore practical topics such as job creation, waste management and green opportunities in the arts — key considerations in a tourism-driven region like Maun.

Speakers include notable figures such as content creator Sibusiso Kgosikhumo of Modisa and I, who will unpack digital storytelling and marketing; Miss Botswana 2018 Moitshephi Elias, who will reflect on pageantry, craft and aesthetics; and business specialist Keolebogile Keabetswe, who will speak on creative business management. Organisers say the combination of artistic and professional insights will demonstrate how the creative industry can drive employment, human capital growth and economic development.

The event supported by Cresta Maun, The Body Mechanic Spa, Planet Culture Café and Pula Nation marks what organisers hope will become a signature annual celebration of Maun’s artistic potential.

With a blend of visual arts, performance, dialogue and philanthropy, “Brush and Sup” aims to inspire, entertain and mobilise the community around both creativity and compassion.
