XI Men – Champions Of Inaugural Tinah Cocks Charity Cup

XI Men are champions of the inaugural ‘Tinah Cocks Charity Cup that pitted a total of eight football teams against each over the weekend for the P3500.00 prize money.

Sponsored by the Tinah Cocks Charity Trust, the tournament featured XI Men, Shapa Shapa, Killer Giants, Bagaetsho, All Stars, Eleven Kings, Miami Stars and Nandos Sc. XI Men lifted the trophy after beating Shapa Shapa 4 – 2 in penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.  

On Saturday, XI Men qualified for the semifinals after winning 2-0 against Killer Giants and Shapa Shapa also qualified following their 3-0 win in penalties against Bagaetsho. Shapa Shapa FC thereafter continued their fight for the finals by eliminating All Stars FC while XI Men on the other hand also scored their only winning goal against Eleven Kings to proceed to the finals. 

On Sunday Eleven Kings FC settled for the third spot following 1-0 win against All Stars on the losers’ finals making way for the final match that set XI Men up against Shapa Shapa.

XI Men scooped the P3500 prize money and a trophy while the runner up Shapa Shapa pocketed P2500 and on third position, Eleven Kings got P1500. The rest of the participating teams, All Stars, Miami Stars, Nandos SC and Bagaetsho all got the participating fees of P500 each.

Featured in the weekend games was also a netball tournament that pitted four local teams Untouchable Queen, United Ladies, Makgabisa Sc and Sweet Angles against each other. The cup was won by Untouchable Queen followed by United Ladies in the second sport while Makgabisa Sc came third. The winners walked away with P2500 and the runner up took home P1500 while third position got P1000. The last teams were also awarded participating fees of P500 each.

Tinah Cocks Charity Trust is a non-profit making charitable organization that seeks to empower the needy, disadvantaged and marginalised members of the society. Its Director, Tinah Tameti indicated that the tournament will be held annually and he has since encouraged the teams to improve on their preparations.

Tameti has since promised an improved tournament next year noting that they will increase the prize money and improve on the logistics and coordination of the event. “We will add more activities on the event such as marathon aerobics, volleyball and ladies soccer,” he said.

He added that more stakeholders will be invited for the next edition with the aim to raise awareness about the importance of health issues and provide valuable services to the community on the two-day event.

He assured that the Trust will continue empowering youth and elderly as well as those less privileged in society. Besides the games, Tameti revealed that their other main objective is to improve oral health which is prevalence among children under the age of five.
