With only two matches left for both Jwaneng Galaxy and Gaborone United before the Premier League comes to an end, anxiety reigns among the fans on both camps and the football fraternity as to where the championship will finally go. Galaxy is currently leading the log with 66 points while ‘Moyagoleele’ is second placed with 61 points.
On Saturday GU claimed all the three points against city rivals, Township Rollers and the victory kept alive their hopes for the title as they are now only five points behind Galaxy. Galaxy on the other hand also walloped Orapa United 5 nil to cement their lead.
The only way for GU to defend the championship is for Galaxy to lose all their remaining matches and they (GU) win theirs for them to finish the league with 67 points, to make them a point ahead of the latter. Galaxy on the other hand seems to need only a win for them to be crowned league champions.
GU are welcoming BDF XI next week Wednesday 31st, 2023 before ending the league on June 3 against Police XI while Galaxy will on the same dates play their home matches with Holy Ghost and Eleven Angels.
Jwaneng Galaxy Public Relations Officer Tankiso Morake said they are optimistic about winning the league this time around as they have good and quality players who can defend and score goals for the team in the remaining matches.
He said their focus is to win against Holy Ghost to make sure they stand well for the challenge. “We played 2-2 draw against them in the first round. The club has good players who can destroy you if you take them lightly therefore we are going there focused and prepared for the three points or at least a draw,” he told Times Sport.
Morake added that they are also ready for their last game against Eleven Angels which they defeated 1- 0 in their away match therefore he believes they can repeat the same approach.
“Our striker, Thabang Sesinyi is eager to score more goals to extend his tale after 28 games, him and Omaatla Kebatho are currently tied at 20 goals each so the more goals Sesinyi scores, the high chances of us winning the games,” he said.
For his part, Gaborone United Communication Officer Herbet Letsebe said they have not lost their hopes on winning the league this season adding that should they win all their matches and Galaxy blunders in their two matches they will defend their title again.
“Our intention is to win both the league and the FA Cup because we want to go for the CAF champions league as we have unfinished business there therefore we are focus on that alone as you can see our Rollers game approach,’ he said.
