Two people were left dead in the small village of Kuke in the Ghanzi district last week in an incident the police suspect to be misunderstandings in love relationships that involved two men and one woman.
Ghanzi Police Station Commander, Superintendent Denis Zilawe has confirmed the incident, detailing that the police were alerted to the horrific incident by a 46-year-old man who was attacked alongside a 43-year-old woman while sleeping at her home.
“We received a report that on the night of the October 7th at around midnight, the couple was asleep when an enraged man broke into the house armed with a sharp object,” said Superintendent Zilawe. “He attacked both occupants, injuring the 46-year-old male. Despite his injuries, the man managed to escape and call for help from passerby’s on the road.”
The Station Commander revealed that when the police arrived at the scene, they found the woman lying motionless in a pool of blood. They swiftly took the woman to Ghanzi Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The injured 46-year-old male victim was also taken to Ghanzi Hospital where he is admitted and was admitted for further medical treatment and where he remains stable.
“Our investigations led us to another home in Kuke, where the trail of the suspect took us to the discovery of a man hanging from a tree, who we believe was the suspected attacker,” he said.
Zilawe shared that the man was cut down from the tree and taken to Ghanzi hospital where he was also certified dead.
Superintendent Zilawe added that further investigations on the matter revealed that the suspect, now deceased 42-year-old man of Kuke was believed to have been in a relationship with the deceased female suggesting the incident might have stemmed from a domestic love affair misunderstanding involving that three.
Zilawe urged members of the public to resolve conflicts peacefully, advising that they should always try to seek better ways to resolve disputes without resorting to violence: illustrating that there are many ways to resolve the issue including talking to family members and friends or support systems that could help them defer from drastic actions.
“We continue to see troubling cases like these in the nation,” he said. “People must remember that communication is the best solution to solving these issues. Violence only destroys lives and families.”
