A tough battle awaits top four teams of the Maun Stream Division One League as they have all confirmed their commitment towards attaining the league championship and advance to the Nhabe Regional playoffs.
However, there can only be one winner at the end of the race and that would be determined by the final blow of the whistle. Times Sport reporter, Kgosietsile Bontsi this week engaged the teams – Maun Heroes, Springbok FC, Moeti United and Gunners of Khwai to share their plans for the on-going 2023/2024 season.
Maun Heroes currently leads the log standings with 23 points followed by Springbok FC with same points but differing on goal difference. Moeti United is on position three with 20 points and in the fourth spot is Gunners of Khwai also with 20 points but behind by goals.
In an interview, Springbok Coach Lawrence Amos said their main aim is to retain the league championship and proceed to the regional playoffs. Amos noted that though the league is tough as compared to the previous season they will fight by all means to win.
He also noted that despite the fact that they lost many of their key players who formed part of their previous squad, the 11 new players that they have already signed will bring out good results.
Maun Heroes Coach, Ronald Sebako said they also came to the league well prepared as they have recruited talented and active players aged around 21 years. He shared that just like any other team in the league their main intention is to remain at the top of the log and proceed to the playoffs. Sebako also concurred that the competition is very tough but they will keep on fighting so that they can achieve their goal.
Moeti United Head Coach Dimpho Molatlhegi said the club’s technical team, players and management have whole heatedly agreed that they want to be at the playoffs in the 2023/2024 season. Though the competition is tough this season and it is not easy to determine who is going to take the league, Molatlhegi said their aim is to win it.
“There is no such team called underdogs this season, their point differences are between one and three, this clearly shows that the league is tough. We will try by all means to reduce the number of draws and losses so that we can be able to gain more points,’’ he said.
Gunners of Khwai Head Coach Jabu Motlhanke said though the league is very tough this season, his plan is to win the league and proceed to the playoffs. He noted that only three teams are ahead of them with low margin of points therefore it is possible for them to win the league.
Motlhanke stated that he will keep on sharpening his players’ minds and improve on their tactical aspects during their training sessions in order for them to maintain the top spot.
