Three men have been arrested in connection with a suspect robbery incident in Maun in which three businessmen were allegedly robbed of more than P375,000 in cash and property valued at over P80,000.
According to a Botswana Police Service media release issued on August 25, 2026, two of the suspects were arrested on August 19, 2026, while the third one was arrested on August 22 following investigations into the robbery which occurred on June 5.
The suspects have been identified as 42-year-old Donald Sibanda and 39-year-old Lyghton Nembaware, both Zimbabwean nationals, together with 42-year-old Bonnie Secha, a Motswana man from Maun.
According to the police, the arrests followed sustained intelligence gathering and investigations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and bringing wanted offenders to justice.
Further investigations established that Sibanda and Nembaware were already on the police wanted list in connection with several outstanding criminal cases.
Police said the two Zimbabwean nationals were wanted in connection with alleged robberies, break-ins, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, as well as other serious offences reported in Gaborone, Mogoditshane and Francistown.
Police further revealed that Nembaware had been declared a prohibited immigrant in 2007.
The three suspects appeared before the Maun Magistrates’ Court on August 25, where they faced one count of robbery. They were remanded in prison pending further investigations and are expected to appear again before court on September 8, 2026.
The latest arrests come as Maun Police continue to investigate a number of robbery and break-in cases reported in the town.
Last week, police appealed to members of the public for assistance in identifying and apprehending three-armed men who allegedly attacked Chinese nationals at their residence in Boseja during the early hours of Monday morning.
In that incident, the suspects were reportedly armed with a firearm and knives and allegedly made away with cellphones and laptops valued at approximately P23,000, together with cash in different currencies.
Police also reported a break-in at Maitlamo Junior Secondary School, where two sewing machines valued at about P19,500 were stolen.
Another robbery at a restaurant in Thito ward was also reported, with items worth P10,433 allegedly stolen. Police have urged members of the public to continue providing information that could assist in ongoing investigations.
The BPS said information from members of the public remains important in helping investigators identify suspects and improve safety and security in communities.
