Tempos Too High For Newly Promoted Clubs

In a month since the newly promoted Nico United, Eleven Angels and Holy Ghost have been plying their trade in the elite league, the three clubs have been struggling to live up to expectations.

Francistown based Eleven Angels has so far played 5 games but only won two matches and lost three, putting them in position 8 with six (6) points equal to Nico United who are in position nine (9).

Kgamu-la-Bananyana, as they are affectionately called by their legion of supporters started their journey at home with a loss to Extension Gunners by 2 goals to nil before winning their next match against Masitaoka by a goal to nil. This was thanks to the midfield maestro Ronny Leagetse who scored their first goal of the league after he converted from the spot kick. The celebration was short lived as they lost their next game to Jwaneng Galaxy.

Angels raised hopes in their road to promotion from the first division. Speaking in an interview its youthful coach, Seemo Mpatane revealed that it has been hard for his young squad to cope with high tempo of the league games as compared to the first division.

“We are gradually gaining momentum in every game that we play and even the results that we get can attest to the good progress that we make, therefore we are pushing though it was hard in the beginning,” he told Times Sport.

He said the more they play big teams like Extension Gunners, Township Rollers and Gaborone United, is the more they will get used to the tempo going towards the end of the season. Mpatane revealed that their main target is to finish in the top eight (8) or better stays in the league next season.

Nico United on the other hand is also finding it hard to do as expected. The Selebi Phikwe based giant are on position nine (9) behind Eleven Angels with six points from one win, three draws and one loss.  Meanwhile Holy Ghost has the hardest of all as they are languishing at the bottom with two (2) points from 2 draws and three losses. It remains to be seen if the clubs will up their game as the league goes on.

Holy Ghost will welcome Prisons XI this Friday at 1900hrs while on the following day Eleven Angels will welcome Sua Flamingoes in Francistown and Nico United will visit Security Systems. The two games will all start at 1600hrs.
