Teachers Implored To Work Hard Despite Challenges!

Date:

Educators have been recognised for their hard work shaping minds, nurturing dreams, and building the foundation of children’s future despite challenges they face.

Teacher’s day, is a celebration meant to honour the men and women who beyond textbooks and lesson plans, leave lasting imprints on the lives of many. This day is to celebrate their dedication, challenges, and the quiet power they wield in shaping a nation.

This year the day was celebrated under the theme, “Investing in Teachers as architects of the new Botswana”, a reminder that teachers are more than instructors but are mentors, visionaries, and pillars of wisdom who illuminate the path to knowledge, guiding children through challenges and victories alike.

When speaking at the commemoration, the Member of Parliament for Maun East, Goretetse Kekgonegile encouraged teachers to keep working hard and push through the struggles they face in their area of profession. He said teachers in the district are challenged by lots of issues including malfunctioning ablutions, lack of accommodation, lack of classrooms but mostly them not being promoted accordingly.

However, Kekgonegile said it takes hard work, dedication, and the patience to be teachers and has further commended them for the good work and lasting impact on young minds.  He added that there are a smaller number of dropouts nowadays saying that it is a sign that the reception students get from school is quite welcoming.

For her part, Kgosi Catherine Matlhare of Old Disaneng stated that teaching is not just about imparting information but it is about shaping futures. Kgosi Matlhare said teachers nurture curiosity and confidence in students and provide parents with the assurance that their children are in safe, capable hands.

“For our nation, educators build the foundation upon which progress stands, ensuring a future filled with innovation, leadership, and unity, and for the teachers themselves, this calling is both a challenge and a privilege, to mold minds, inspire hearts, and leave an enduring legacy,” she added.

Kgosi Matlhare further urged teachers to take pride in the difference they make each day. “Know that your sacrifices do not go unnoticed, and your influence stretches far beyond the walls of any classroom. In moments of difficulty, remember that you are shaping generations that will lead, serve, and build a stronger Botswana, “she said.

For his part, Business Development Manager – North at Letshego Botswana, Edwin Tsietso commended teachers for their good work saying that they inspire minds, build futures, and shape leaders.  He said the teachers are more than educators but are also nation builders.

“We know that your work doesn’t end in the classroom. You invest emotionally, intellectually, and even financially in your students, often going beyond the call of duty,” he added.
