Tamog Tours and Safaris has once again extended its helping hand to the community of Sankoyo village, this time around donating four houses to needy residents and school uniforms to ten children.

The company which operates Mogogelo Camp and leases part of NG32 under the Sankoyo Tshwaragano Management Community Trust (STMCT), has handed over the new houses and uniforms on Monday. Villagers praised the company, highlighting that the donation would bring dignity to those who had been living without proper shelter, and give confidence to the pupils receiving new uniforms.

The Village Development Committee Chairperson Kobamelo Simalomba said during the handover that the donation showed the company’s good intentions with the community.  He explained that when the company signed an agreement with the trust, it listed all the projects it would support under its corporate social responsibility plan. Since then, the company has kept its promises every year.

He added that the company usually builds two houses per year, but this time it built four, showing its strong commitment to community development.

In 2022, the company also spent P12,000 to help repair the village clinic after reports of broken ceilings and odour caused by bats in the roof.

STMCT Vice Chairperson Obusitswe John said the partnership with the company had brought many benefits through the Community Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) Programme. He said the community uses income from CBNRM for social projects, development work, and support for the elderly and the needy. Simalomba praised the company for its continued support and for creating jobs for local people.

The Director of Tamog Safari, Mogomotsi Motlapele, said he felt responsible as a local operator to empower the community, and thanked the village for trusting his company to operate in their area. He said STMCT is a good example of how the CBNRM programme can change people’s lives and encouraged parents to teach young people about the importance of investing for the future.

A village social worker Thato Morake also urged the beneficiaries to take good care of their new houses and to teach their children to appreciate and look after what they have received.

For her part, one of the beneficiaries, Obafitlhetse Ntaashuma, said she had struggled for years without a proper home. She thanked the company, saying she could now sleep peacefully knowing she has a decent house.

“We really appreciate your efforts to improve our lives. Everyone can see the good work you are doing, and we pray for your business to grow so you can continue helping the community,” she said.
