Maun residents will this weekend be spoiled for choice as Okavango Is Calling brings two exciting events, the Ngami Alive after 5 and ‘Okavango Family Reunion Retreat Extravaganza.
Ngami Alive after 5, a premium business networking session will be held this Friday at Park View Hotel while the extravaganza is billed for the following day on Saturday at Beach Garden Centre.
The extravaganza will be headlined by legendary folklore guitarist, Monaga Molefi popularly known as Stiger Sola and other local resident DJs. Attendees will be treated to a variety of activities including adult games like mhele, morabaraba, diketo and for kids there will be swimming, quad biking, face painting and a jumping castle. Tickets are sold at P100 for adults and P40 for children.
According to Okavango Is Calling Director Thato Vincent Sebati, the extravaganza is a family fun day that seeks to improve the parent to child relationship. He explained that the idea of this event was highly motivated by his personal experience during his upbringing which as a result he came up with the concept of bringing families together to bridge the gap between them.
He noted that parents and guardians are usually very busy during the course of the month and do not have time to interact with their children by having a great time and refreshing from their daily work.
He said that parents will also get a chance to interact with others and share the child raising tips as both mothers and fathers to build and improve their relationships with their children.
“Further going, our wish is to invite psychologist, social workers, finance officers who will engage families in short sessions of guidance, counseling and give tips on how to improve their relationships,” Sebati added. The event is planned to be hosted every last Saturday of the month.
The business networking mingle will on the other hand bring together the business community for interaction and networking. Director of the Okavango Research Institute (ORI), University of Botswana Joseph E Mbaiwa will be the guest speaker of the session.
The second edition comes after the initial one which was held at the end of September with one of Maun’s business ladies, co-founder of Laha Hotel, Hannah Bontle Lecha as the guest speaker.
The events management, communications and marketing brand plans to host the business event every last Friday of the month to promote business networking as well as encourage the exchange of business ideas. In each business event they will host a local entrepreneur who is familiar with the economy and market of Ngamiland. The tickets are sold at P150 inclusive of a plate of food and wine and will commence at 5pm.
Sebati has said the two events are aimed at promoting the tourism and heritage of Ngamiland region, adding that the concept was motivated by his passion for tourism.
