Folklore music legend and guitarist, Monaga ‘Stiger Sola’ Molefi has promised thrilling performances at the much anticipated inaugural show dubbed ‘Katjire Annual Jazz Festival.’
The show, organised by Stiger Sola Entertainmentt is billed for this coming Easter Holidays – April 17, 2022 at Luna Gardens in Maun. The event adds to the many events that are lined up in Maun during the Easter weekend, which is headlined by the Mascom Derby which returns after a 2 year Covid-19 hiatus.
The massive Jazz Event will comprise famous jazz sensations that include Stiger Sola, Lister Boleseng, Ndingo Johwa, Sereetsi & the Natives, Ndingo Johwa, Lister Boleseng, Rolly Roland and Histo.
The festival will feature local artists only, which according to the organisers is way empower and promote local talent.
The festival name is derived from one of Stiger Soga’s popular hit tracks titled ‘Katjire.’
“Katjire is an affection song that was meant to recognise the beauty of a woman, so naming the show ‘Katjire Annual Jazz Festival’ will give the audience an opportunity to feel and enjoy the atmosphere of love,” one of the event organiser William Banda told The Weekender.
Banda indicated that for the longest time, the country has not hosted any jazz festival as most shows featured various music genres, adding that they wanted the show to be unique and allow jazz lovers to feel the vibe of the music closest to their hearts.
He added that by prioritising local artists they also did not want to follow the trend of other local promoters who prefer to book international artists, something that sidelines local artists and restricts them from recognition.
Another member of the organising team, Balatotswe Makhao said they are hopeful that the show will attract lots of revellers including those who will be visiting Maun for tourism and other activities during the aaster holidays. Makhao indicated that the plan is for the festival to be an annual event to allow it to grow and gain more recognition.
“The festival is going to be irresistible for those who are starved of jazz music performances. Jazz is so calming therefore I urge the community not to hesitate in supporting the event,” said Makhao.
For his part, Stiger Sola who is known for his energizing and exciting performances has assured the spectators of an electrifying performance during the event. Even though the event is a jazz festival, Stiger Sola has indicated that he will perform his songs from other different genres such as Afro-pop, Rock, Kwasa and Rumba to cater for various audiences.
The artist is also hopeful that through the festival the Ngamiland community and the whole nation will experience irresistible performance from different local artists. Tickets for the festival are sold at P150 early bird, P200 at the gate and P500 VIP and can be bought at Web tickets and other outlets.
