Springbok FC Are Champions Of The Maun Stream

Date:

The Gweta based Springbok FC took dominance of the Maun Stream Division 1 League and was subsequently crowned champions, for the very first time since its establishment.

The club has now advanced to the Nhabe Regional Playoffs with 52 points from the 23 games played out of which they won 16, drew four and lost three. After finishing in position 9 last season, the club has this time around came determined for a win as evidenced by their qualification to the play-offs.

The Gweta side will represent the Maun stream at the Nhabe Regional Play-offs set to be held in Gumare from the 17th-18th June 2023 and they will face the champions from Shakawe Stream, Ndundu FC and the winner of Gumare stream which is currently being led by City Kings FC.

Coach Lawrence Amos told Times Sport that when he took over, his main vision was to qualify for the regional play-offs to change the lives of the players through football and show them that football has a future. Amos said he made known his vision to both the players and the club’s president.

The coach said the players heeded his call as they showed commitment to the task which he is happy they were able to achieve.

“At the beginning of the season, I showed my boys the importance of winning the league, I tried to motivate them because most of them were playing in the league for the first time as we recruited them from different social clubs,” he said.

Amos added he changed certain things that resulted in their victory among them a new philosophy, the team’s training methods and playing style, all which made them excel and that made them outstanding as compared to teams in Maun.

“As the most travelling team in this stream, I had realised that in the previous season they used to leave in afternoon for their games in Maun, but this season we left earlier so that we can have enough time to rest and that worked for us,” he added.

As they will be heading to the regional play-offs, Amos said they are going to draw their plans and come up with new strategies in preparation for their next task. He noted that they will analyse the strengths, weaknesses of the teams they will face, come up with good strategies so that they give them a competitive challenge. As for now the coach indicated that they will take one step at a time before reaching the First Division North promotional play-offs.
