Kasane Senior Magistrate Kose Makoba has remanded the alleged killer of Sedudu Sporting Club soccer player. The alleged killer, 29-year old Stanley Banda who is employed as a labourer at Zhong Gan Construction was on Tuesday arraigned before Kasane Senior Magistrate Kose Makobo for the murder of Kago Basupi and unlawful wounding of Keamogetse Kamwi.
The incident is reported to have occurred at Kamwi’s place in Kazungula, Newstance Ward this past Monday.
It is alleged that on that fateful day the accused person went to his 27-year old ex-girlfriend’s house where he found her with the 37-year old Basupi. He is alleged to have then stabbed the deceased with a knife on the bicep who thereafter ran for his life. Basupi was later found lying unconsciously on the ground by the police who traced his blood drops.
The accused is reported to have also stabbed his ex-girlfriend on the left side of the ribs and she is currently admitted at Kasane Primary Hospital.
When pleading for the accused person to be remanded in custody, Investigating Officer (IO) of the case Jakahama Seleka informed the court that the matter is still fresh as it was committed on Monday. He further argued that they are yet to gather more evidence on the matter and also record statements from possible witnesses.
“Victim number two is hospitalised at Kasane Primary Hospital and we have not yet recorded a statement from her because she is still in pain, we are still observing her condition which we fear may change,” he told court.
Seleka added that they also fear that the accused person might interfere with the state witnesses noting that he shares the same fence with potential witness. The IO said they therefore fears for the witnesses’ safety as well as that of the accused person. He added that they also fear that the accused person may abscond court.
The accused person had pleaded to be granted bail so that he can go and collect his belongings. The accused will appear in court on June 27th for status hearings.
