Shot In The Arm For Okavango Communities

Date:

Communities in the Okavango district will benefit from the services of Hydro Borehole Drilling and Thito Holdings who are partners of the newly established Shakawe Stream Football Tournament in the region.

In an interview with the tournament’s coordinator Themba Senyemba revealed that the initiative will help many farmers drill boreholes at cheaper and discounted prices for their cattle and agricultural produce. Communities and players will also enjoy funeral policies and life cover insurance at very low premiums.

Despite a high number of farmers in the area, there are fewer boreholes owing to exorbitant borehole drilling prices by some companies. Hydro drilling will also offer drilling services at 50% and 30 % discount to players and supporters from the 16 participating teams in the tournament respectively.

On the other hand, Thito Holdings will offer funeral policy, life cover and bereavement schemes of up to P10 000 to the teams, benefitting supporters indirectly. The benefit is part of the tournament’s initiative of giving back to the community according to Senyemba, and majority of supporters will enjoy funeral covers at low premiums.

He explained that the supporters of each team will be given priority on policy and schemes registration and will be required to pay a total amount of P30 a month, from which P5 will go towards the supporters’ team account.

Hydro Boreholes Drilling Botswana Chairman Madhukar Reddy confirmed that his company is a sponsor of the tournament, and have pledged P50 000 towards the tourney.

Reddy reiterated that players from the 16 teams will be given 50% discount and the support base will qualify for the 30% discount. The other companies who will take part in supporting the event will also be given 50% discount if any of their employees want to drill a borehole at their farms.

Thito Holdings Sales and Marketing Lead Godiraone Mooketsi confirmed their support and pledged P40 000 towards the success of the tourney and said they will help the 16 teams that participate in the tournament together with their supporters through their funeral benefits cover.

She explained that the funeral benefit will allow supporters to qualify for the P10 000 cover in an event one passes on. The supporters will register and subscribe with their teams at P30 monthly.

Meanwhile the Patron of the Tournament Ookeditse Malesu said his company will open an office in Shakawe and employ more than 4 unemployed youth in Shakawe who will manage the team’s accounts, registration of support base for each 16 teams.

He further revealed that the office will work as the secretariat of the teams’ and will coordinate with Thito Holdings for the issue of funeral cover and benefits.
