Shakawe Woman Murdered In Namibia Buried!

Date:

A 38-year-old woman of Shakawe village who was allegedly raped and beaten to death by an unknown assailant in Divundu, Namibia was buried over the weekend.

Police confirmed the arrival of her body that was then handed to the family for burial proceedings this past weekend.

According to Assistant Superintendent Babinang Banohi of Shakawe Police, the deceased had crossed over to Namibia with a friend last Friday morning to go and pick her child, who had gone for school holidays that side.

It is said that the deceased and her 32-year-old friend had gone for a night out on Friday evening, but met their fate as they were returning back home in the early hours of Saturday. The incident is reported to have occurred between 00h00 and 07h23 in Divundu.

Banohi said on their way back they met a man who allegedly started beating them but the 32-year-old friend who hails from Maun managed to escape for safety leaving the deceased behind.  Banohi noted that the deceased was allegedly raped and beaten to death with a wooden stick.

Her friend is said to have reported to the police who immediately rushed to the scene and found the deceased lying on the ground with wounds on her head. The police then took the deceased to Andara Catholic Hospital where she was certified dead.

Assistant Superintendent Banohi said the body was taken for postmortem in Rundu still in Namibia on Thursday morning and returned to Divundu later that day to wait collection the following day by Shakawe Police.

Meanwhile, Banohi has urged the public to be careful when crossing over to other countries and ensure that they are safe when going out especially at night. He encouraged the public to use safe public transport wherever they will be. “Always plan a route home and make sure you stick to places you know or are familiar with. Never take short cuts, especially down dark allies, by canals or through unlit parks,” he said.

He further advised that valuables should always be hidden as they can attract thieves and perpetrators. If possible, he also encouraged people to remain close to those they trust and know well, to reduce the risk of being targeted by people who are up to no good.
