Shakawe Suspected Student Killer Remanded

A 22-year-old man of Shakawe, accused of killing a form 5 Shakawe Senior Secondary School student who was on Monday arraigned before Shakawe Magistrate court has been remanded in custody and will appear in court again for mention on the 7th of November. 

The deceased was a 20-year-old young girl of Phachanga ward in Shakawe while the accused is also of the same village.

Shakawe Police Station Commander Superintendent Goitsemodimo Molapisi confirmed that the gruesome incident took place this past Sunday (23rd October) near the school by a passage commonly used by the day scholars to school and back home. The matter was reported by the deceased’s 19-year-old boyfriend at around 12pm who had appointed to meet with her.

According to the Superintendent, the deceased was last seen on the 23rd of October at around 10am by her boyfriend who is a boarding student at the same school.

“The boyfriend explained that he was with the deceased in school when they parted with the agreement that the girlfriend should walk back home where he will follow her after breakfast,” Molapisi said.

On his way to see the deceased as per their agreement, he reportedly came across the deceased’s   shoe and noticed some blood on the ground as well. Trying to figure out what could have been happening, he saw the lifeless body of the deceased lying in a pool of blood with a big cut on the neck.

On receiving the report, Molapisi said they went to the scene and they took the body of the deceased was taken to Shakawe Clinic where she was certified dead.

He noted that they then went on to search for the suspected killer, following his footsteps which led them to his house where they found and arrested him. The accused is said to have then confessed to killing the 19-year-old girl following a disagreement.

Molapisi further said investigations on the matter are still ongoing noting that they are still awaiting autopsy results which will reveal the cause of death. He added that the accused will also be taken for a mental status examination by psychiatrists.
