… while Sepopa missing woman was found dead
Police are investigating two separate horrific incidents that occurred in the Okavango district recently – one in which a man committed suicide by shooting himself with a gun and another in which a missing woman was found dead.
In the first incident, a 30-year-old man of Xhaoga Village is reported to have recently shot himself dead in a suicide incident in Shakawe.
District No 17 Officer Commanding Senior Superintendent Victor Nlebesi confirmed the incident indicating that they received the report from the deceased’s parents on Thursday 7th morning at around 7am.
According to him, the parents heard gunshots coming from the deceased’s house and they notified the police. Police are said to have then rushed to the scene where upon arrival they found the deceased lying in a pool of blood with a 30.06 riffle next to him. He was then rushed to Joseph Polaano Kavindama Hospital in Shakawe where he was certified dead.
Superintendent Nlebesi said the gun that was used by the deceased belonged to his grandfather and that they were about to go to the farm together on that day. He added that the gun was licensed and always correctly stored before it was taken out in preparation to go to the farm.
Nlebesi said that upon questioning the relatives, they said the 30-year-old man did not show any signs of distress and that he left no suicide note before claiming his life. The deceased originated from Xhaoga village but was residing together with his parents at Ndundu Ward in Shakawe Village.
Meanwhile in a different incident, the Officer Commanding revealed that a 37-year-old woman of Sepopa Village who has been reported missing was found dead in the bush in Kajaja village recently.
According to him, the deceased was last seen at her home in Sepopa on November 3rd and was later reported missing on the 6th.
Police together with some members of the community then embarked on a search following her tracks which led them to where her body was found in Kajaja village, about 10 km from her home village, Sepopa.
Nlebesi ruled out any foul play that could have led to the deceased’s death, revealing that from medical observation, she suffered from sunburns, hence she is believed to have died a natural death. He however indicated that they are awaiting post-mortem results to confirm the exact cause of her death.
