The team’s Coach Likha Paphani told Times Sport that his confidence in the team is not misplaced therefore he remains positive that they can still fulfil their main aim of being in the top six at the end of the season.
“I don’t want to put my boys and the technical team under pressure by promising that we are going to win the league, so our goal is to remain at the top six, if it happens that we win the league, that would come as a bonus,” he said.
Paphani noted that as coach he wishes to see his team winning the league, but looking at the way they played their first games he doesn’t want to put anyone under pressure. The coach believes that his team don’t belong to where it is at the moment but somewhere up assuring that they will surely attain that.
“Though we have not started well, we are however working on it, our supporters and the whole community should be patient with us because we will achieve our goal. The league is a marathon so not starting well is not the end for us to become champions, we can still achieve that,” he confidently said.
Paphani stated that they lost the games already played with small margins, indicating that defensively the team is doing well though they are still struggling upfront. He assured that after Week six they will not be where they are currently but would have moved at the top.
The coach revealed that during the pre-season tournaments some of his key players got injuries and that has contributed to the team starting the league badly. He however indicated that the players that they have recently signed will take over and boost the performance of the team as they are starting to understand his game plan.
“We are currently preparing for our game against Calendar Stars on Saturday (tomorrow) at Maun Sports Complex, Calendar Stars are doing very well in the league, but we are not going to be afraid of them, we are home therefore we are hoping for a win,” he said.
Santa Green are currently leading the league with seven points, followed by Chadibe FC with six points while Calendar Stars are at position three with four points.
