Ross Branch, affectionately known as the ‘Kalahari Ferrari,’ is on the brink of a major achievement as he prepares for the final round of the FIM Rally-Raid World Championship in Morocco. Leading the championship by 9 points, Branch is set to compete on October 6th, in what promises to be a thrilling conclusion to the 2024 season.
“My preparations ahead of the final race have been intense. I’ve put in the work, and my team has dedicated their lives to building the best bikes possible,” Branch shared. “We still have a few test runs to do before Morocco, but my ambition is clear: to raise the World Championship Cup and bring home the gold medal. That would be the pinnacle of my achievements.”
Branch is heading into the Rallye du Maroc, a race known for its challenging terrain, which serves as a critical event in the championship series. With fierce competition, this race could solidify Branch’s standing at the top.
Reflecting on the year, Branch expressed pride in both his own accomplishments and those of other Botswanan athletes. “This has been a great year, not just for me, but for athletes across the country. I’m inspired by the performances of athletes like Letsile Tebogo, who have shown that Botswana is a nation of winners,” he said.
Branch’s year has already been decorated with success, notably his second-place finish at the 2024 Dakar Rally, where he trailed winner Ricky Brabec by just 10 minutes and 53 seconds.
“While I was disappointed with my last two races, the support I’ve received has helped me understand where I needed to improve. I’ve worked hard behind the scenes to ensure I’m at my best.”
His illustrious career includes seven wins in the Botswana 1000 Desert Race, three South African Cross Country titles, and international victories like the 2019 Dakar Rally Rookie of the Year award and a stage win at the 2020 Dakar Rally. In 2024, Branch became the first Botswanan and the first African to podium in the Dakar Rally’s Rally GP class, finishing second overall.
Currently racing for Hero MotoSports, Branch has celebrated numerous victories with the team, including dual stage wins at the 2023 Dakar Rally. His skill, dedication, and commitment have made him a formidable competitor on the global stage.
“As we wrap up the FIM Rally, preparations for Dakar 2025 will soon be underway. In the long term, my goal is to grow motorsport in Botswana and inspire the next generation to believe that it’s possible to make a living from sports in this country,” Branch concluded.
With his eyes set on making history, Ross Branch is ready to leave it all on the track as he races toward championship glory in Morocco.
