The BTTA Maun Open 2025 ended in thrilling fashion with Tshepiso Rebatenne and Boago Malobela with emerging victorious in the women’s and men’s singles categories respectively this past weekend in Maun.

Hosted at Delta Waters International School in Maun, the event showcased Botswana’s top table tennis talent, with players from six clubs competing for national rankings and a share of the P8,800 prize pool, courtesy of sponsor Phoenix Assurance Botswana.

The tournament drew 28 women and 54 men from clubs including Nhabe TTC, BDF TTC, Smash Maniacs TTC, the Bontleng/Ithuteng BTTA project, Dithubaruba TTC, and the host school, Delta Waters.

Rebatenne, representing Nhabe TTC, stormed through the tournament with consistent performances, culminating in a commanding 3–0 victory in the final against fellow clubmate Emmah Lelatisitswe.

The scoreline of 11–7, 11–5, 12–10 confirmed her dominance and marked her as one of the standout athletes of the tournament. She had earlier defeated BDF’s Constance Kauwani 3–0 in the semi-final, while Lelatisitswe earned her place in the final by overcoming BDF’s Game Kebodiwang 3–1.

On the men’s side, Smash Maniacs’ Boago Malobela was untouchable, capturing the title with a 3–0 victory over teammate Masa Lesole. Malobela’s blend of speed and precision resulted in scores of 11–8, 11–2, 11–9. He reached the final after dispatching Tshephang Mogala of Nhabe TTC 3–1 in the semi-final. Lesole battled through a tightly contested 3–2 win over BDF’s Mompati Chabe in the other semi-final, which was among the most intense matches of the tournament.

Thanks to Phoenix Assurance Botswana, the top three finishers in both divisions received cash prizes: P2,000 for first place, P1,200 for second, and P600 for third, bringing the total prize money to P8,800. This financial backing is a key component in BTTA’s mission to grow and reward local table tennis excellence.

Delta Waters International School principal Mr. Pearce Khoza stated, “This is more than just a sporting event. It is the beginning of a new chapter that we believe will grow into a vibrant tree of opportunity, talent development, and community engagement,” he said.

Khoza expressed commitment to incorporating table tennis into the school’s curriculum alongside other sports and said the school was dedicated to creating lasting infrastructure to support future champions.

“To the Maun community, we invite you to walk this journey with us,” Khoza concluded.
