Week 9 of the Nhabe Regional Football Association Division 1 League was heavily affected by weather conditions, with several fixtures either postponed or abandoned due to rain. Despite the disruptions, key results at the top and bottom of the table ensured the title race and relegation battle remain finely balanced heading into the festive break.
Saturday’s action saw Gunners boost their title credentials with a hard-fought 2–1 away victory over TD Mambas, handing the previously hard-to-beat Mambas their first defeat of the season. The result lifted Gunners to 14 points, level with Springbok FC and firmly inside the top five.
Maun Tigers claimed a much-needed 2–0 win over Wolfsburg SC, easing pressure near the lower half of the table while extending Wolfsburg’s winless run. Megger FC also collected vital points after edging Maun Terrors 1–0, registering only their second win of the campaign and slightly improving their survival prospects.
The highly anticipated clash between CTO FC and Springbok FC did not take place, denying fans one of the weekend’s headline encounters and leaving both teams’ positions unchanged.
Sunday’s fixtures were again interrupted by heavy rainfall. Matches between Delta Winds and Moeti United, as well as Cubs FC and Ngami Swallows, were abandoned before completion, while the encounter between Wild Dogs and City Kings was not played.
One game that did reach its conclusion saw Western Dynamites secure a narrow but crucial 1–0 victory over St. Daniels. The win propelled Western to 18 points, moving them within a single point of league leaders City Kings, who remain top despite not playing in Week 9.
At the summit, City Kings continue to set the pace with 19 points from seven matches and re-main unbeaten. Western’s strong run has intensified the title race, while CTO FC, still perfect with five wins from five matches, sit third and loom as a serious threat with games in hand. Springbok FC and Gunners round out the top five, both well positioned as the season heads into its next phase.
In the lower reaches of the table, Wolfsburg SC and Delta Winds remain rooted at the bottom with just two points apiece, while St. Daniels and Megger FC continue to struggle for consistency.
As Week 9 draws the curtain on league action ahead of the festive period, the Nhabe Regional Football Association extended a message of gratitude and goodwill to all teams, officials, sup-porters, and stakeholders.
The association wished everyone a prosperous festive season and a happy New Year, with league action set to resume in the coming weeks as clubs prepare for a competitive second half of the campaign.
