Raguin Set For Australian Open Qualifiers

Date:

Botswana tennis has reached a historic milestone as teenage star Ntungamili Raguin has officially broken into the ITF Junior World Top 100, securing qualification for the Australian Open Junior qualifiers later this month.

According to the latest ITF Junior Rankings released on 05 January 2026, Raguin is now ranked World No. 93, marking a career-high position and one of the most significant achievements in the history of Botswana tennis. The breakthrough caps a remarkable rise that has unfolded over just two months.

Back in November 2025, prior to his back-to-back victories on home soil at the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors J60 and J100 tournaments in Gaborone, Raguin was ranked outside the top 200. Thereafter the consecutive wins of the J60 and J100 consecutive titles ignited a surge in ranking points and confidence, propelling the 16-year-old from 220 prior to J60, which he climbed to World No. 199 after winning. Following this he climbed to World No. 167 after winning J100.

The Top 100 ranking guarantees Raguin a place in the Australian Open Junior qualifiers, placing him on the doorstep of becoming the first Motswana to compete at a Junior Grand Slam, a feat that would rewrite the nation’s tennis history.

Raguin’s numbers underline the consistency behind the rise. He currently boasts an overall win rate of 78 percent, with 46 wins and just 13 losses on the junior circuit. His 2025 season has been particularly impressive across surfaces, recording a 79 percent win rate on clay (31 wins, 8 losses) and a 75 percent win rate on hard courts (15 wins, 5 losses), a key indicator of adaptability at the highest level.

Ultimately, 2025 was a historic year for Raguin, after having won five world ITF junior singles titles, one regional Youth singles title and two junior doubles titles.

The achievement is being celebrated across the local tennis community as a validation of years of hard work, discipline, and growing investment in junior development. Raguin has already built a reputation for delivering under pressure, previously helping Botswana earn promotion in the Davis Cup and dominating international competition during the recent ITF events hosted in Gaborone.

With Melbourne now firmly in sight, all eyes will be on the young star as he vies for the Australian Open Junior qualifiers. Regardless of the outcome, Ntungamili Raguin’s ascent into the world’s top 100 has already opened a new chapter for Botswana tennis.
