wins both singles and doubles titles
Botswana junior tennis player Ntungamili Raguin has made history in Japan after winning both the singles and doubles titles at the ITF J200 Miki tournament.
Raguin became the first Motswana to win a singles title at J200 level after defeating tournament top seed Mustafa Ege Sik of Australia 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in Sunday’s final.
The 17-year-old had to recover from losing the opening set before taking control of the match and winning the next two sets to secure the historic victory.
His singles run included a number of challenging matches. He defeated Japan’s Kensuke Kobayashi 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 in the opening round before overcoming another Japanese player, Koyu Yanagi, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
Raguin then produced another comeback against fifth seed Ymerali Ibraimi of Australia, recovering from a 0-6 first set to win 6-2, 6-2. He followed that with a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory over seventh seed Ethan Domingo of Australia in the semi-finals, setting up a final against the tournament’s top seed.
The singles triumph came after Raguin had already secured the doubles championship alongside Pakistan’s Mikaeel Ali Baig.
The pair, playing their first doubles tournament together, defeated top seeds Sik and fellow Australian Taiki Takizawa 7-5, 6-2 in the final.
Raguin and Baig had earlier defeated the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 1 seeded teams on their way to the doubles title.
The victory also marked Raguin’s second J200 doubles title, following his African Junior Championship doubles title at J200 Cairo earlier this year.
Raguin therefore leaves Miki with two titles after winning nine consecutive matches across the singles and doubles draws.
The achievement adds to what has already been a landmark year for the trailblazing Botswana player.
Earlier this year, Raguin became the first player on record from Botswana to compete at a Grand Slam when he featured at the Australian Open Junior Championships. He also became the first Motswana to record a match victory at a Grand Slam, reaching the third round of the junior competition.
Before the Australian Open, he had reached the semi-finals of the J300 Traralgon tournament after coming through qualifying. He had also won three tournaments towards the end of 2025 — J100 Nairobi, J60 Gaborone and J100 Gaborone.
Raguin’s progress has continued to place Botswana on the international junior tennis map, with his latest performance in Japan adding another significant milestone to his growing record.
His J200 Miki double further highlights a season in which he has continued to compete successfully against highly ranked junior players on the international circuit.
