Preparations are at an advanced stage for much anticipated return of the Batawana Paramount Chief Tawana Moremi II to office on April 3.
Maun Umbrella Village Development Committees, (UVDC) and Tawana’s regiment Matsaakgang are leading the preparations which have been divided into two, with the first one being to prepare for the paramount chief’s welcome into office on the 3rd April and the second one being another celebration to appreciate and thank Batawana regent Kgosi Kealetile Moremi on a date yet to be announced later this month.
Addressing a kgotla meeting this week, UVDC chairperson Tapoloso Mosika indicated that as a committee spearheading the preparations, they will often engage with Morafe at their respective wards (dikgotlana) for all the logistics.
He further indicated that the preparations have no budget, and that they will depend on contributions from members of the public and private companies, both in cash or in kind. According to Mosika there is a need to refurbish Kgosi Tawana’s office before his return date to the Kgotla.
Meanwhile Kgosi Babinang Majatsie has since revealed that as Dikgosi across the district have agreed and pledged to contribute P100 each.
“All Dikgosi from Makalamabedi to Gudigwa have been informed about this event through letters to their tribal offices and the information has arrived so we are only awaiting for their contribution so that we can deliver to the main committee,” he noted.
Shashe Kgotla committee representative, Godfrey Modimoosi revealed that they have already elected a committee to lead the preparations which has started collecting the contributions.
He said they resolved that every man in Shashe will contribute P100 while women will contribute P50 towards the celebrations.
Tawana was installed Paramount Chief of Batawana in 1995 but left the office in 2003 to join active politics until 2019. His elder sister, Kealetile Moremi who has been holding fort for him since 2003 will be officially stepping down for him on April 3rd.
