Preparations For Kgosi Tawana Welcome Celebration Underway

Preparations for the much anticipated ceremony to welcome Kgosi Tawana Moremi II to his throne following his return to office at the beginning of the month are said to be well on course, with the Maun Umbrella village development committees (UVDC) in Maun and Kgosi’s regiment Matsaakgang spearheading them.

The ceremony, which will also be a farewell to Kealetile Moremi who has been fort for Tawana for two decades will be held on April 19, will attract dignitaries and guests, including Dikgosi from other tribes across the country.

Contributions, both in kind and cash from individuals, companies and the different wards in Maun have been flowing in, with organisers adamant the ceremony will be of the status and magnitude befitting Kgosi.

Umbrella VDC Chairperson Tapoloso Mosika has said that preparations are progressing well. Notable among the contribution was that the Matsaakgang regiment has contributed P 5000 while five VDC committees have already contributed P5 000.

Mosika further revealed that they expecting more contributions from different individuals, including Di Kgosi.

He has further made a call to companies, businesses and individuals willing to make contributions to be free to do so before the set date.

With more than 26 VDC’s in Maun, pledges will be collected and some will come from outside Maun. Kgosi Tawana’s jurisdiction spans from Makalamabedi to Gudigwa, and contributions are expected to be made from all the villages.

Shashe Kgotla in Maun has pledged to have all men contribute P100 each, which women were to contribute P50 each towards the celebration ceremony. Representative from Shashe ward preparation committee Godfrey Modimoosi revealed that they will also contribute in other ways to make sure the event is successful.

Meanwhile Kgosi Tawana Moremi II is expected to fully address Batawana at this ceremony following his short speech on the day he returned to office. In his acceptance speech then, he indicated he had nothing much to say as has been away from the office for a long time

At the same time Kealetile Moremi will be appreciated and thanked by all Batawana for her leadership as a regent for the past 20 years.
