Premier League Starts On October 22

The wait is finally over as Botswana Premier League (BPL) has announced Saturday October 22 as the commencement of the 2022/23 season following postponement after five clubs had failed to meet the club licensing criteria. The five cubs,……have since been pardoned and allowed to partake in this season.

The opening fixtures of the league will see the champions, Gaborone United taking on BDF XI at Lobatse Sports Complex at 1600hrs on Saturday 22, followed by four other matches where the newly promoted Eleven Angels welcome Morupule Wanderers at Obed Itani Chilume Stadium while Holy Ghost travels to Galaxy stadium for a litmus test against Jwaneng Galaxy. Nico United will welcome Sua Flamingoes at Sam Sono Stadium on the same day.

On Sunday, three matches will wrap up week 1, with Township Rollers welcoming Mogoditshane Fighters at Molepolole Sports Complex, Police XI up against Security Systems at Lobatse Sports Complex while Extension Gunners will travel to Otse Stadium to meet the Jungle kings (Police XI).

Premier league Communications Officer Mosimanegape Prince Tshoswane confirmed to this publication that the leagues will this time around resume on the set date. He said the fixtures have been released to the 16 clubs adding that stadiums are set and ready to accommodate all the 30 matches.

Obed Itani Chilume stadium, Galaxy stadium, Itekeng, Sam Sono, VTM Arena, Otse, Sowa Town and three sports complex of Molepolole, Serowe and Lobatse will host all the 30 matches for the 2022/23 season.

Meanwhile, Eleven Angels Chairperson Tshoganetso Better has revealed that his team has done everything possible to comply with the requirements for them to be reinstated into the premier league.

Better further said the team has received communication on the commencement of the season, adding that they will start the campaign by welcoming Morupule Wanderers on Saturday October 2, before an encounter with Extension gunners at Molepolole sports complex on October 29th.

“Our five first fixtures will also see us welcome Masitaoka after Extension Gunners, then away to Galaxy and Prisons XI on November 5 and 12 respectively,” he said.
