Police Yet To Make Breakthrough In Francistown Death Incident

Date:

  • Young woman fell to death from a multi-story building

The bizarre death of a woman aged between 20 and 23 years, at Francistown’s Barclays Plaza last week Saturday late afternoon remains a mystery.

Police are yet to establish whether the woman’s death was suicide or she was thrown off from the multi storey skyscraper. Acting Central Police Station Commander, Assistant Superintendent Douglas Khumalo has indicated that investigations on the matter are still ongoing.

“We got a report at around 1700hrs on Saturday afternoon, when the police got to the scene, the lady had already been taken away from the scene and rushed to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital where she was certified dead. So far, we have sketchy information about the incident, and we are appealing to members of the public who witnessed it or have any information to come forward,” urged Khumalo.

The police boss further indicated that no arrests have yet been made noting, “we are not aware whether the deceased was chasing after thieves who had stolen something from her.  All I am pleading for is for anyone with information which can help in this case, to come forward and assist us with investigation.”

Assistant Superintendent Khumalo noted that the deceased’s family has already been identified and notified about the death incident.

Meanwhile word on the bustling streets of Francistown, suggest that the young lady was chasing after three young men who had snatched a cellphone and valuables from her. In her chase, the petty thieves ran up the stairs of the tall building to evade the young lady and possible mob justice.

A vendor who sells around Barclays Plaza and claimed to have witnessed the incident alleged, “the lady followed thieves up the stairs, shouting that she wanted her things back. A scuffle ensured while they were up there, the next she was tossed from second floor to the ground floor. The men she was following quickly sneaked away.”
