Police Ready To Ensure Public Safety Over Easter Holidays!

Date:

Police stations across the Northwest region and Ghanzi district have affirmed their readiness to ensure public safety during the Easter Holidays, with increased patrols, traffic stops, and community engagement efforts.

In an interview, Gumare Police Station Commander Superintendent, Chenamo Orateng emphasised that officers are on high alert and will be conducting targeted patrols throughout Gumare. “Our unit is well prepared to serve the community,” he said. “We will have officers deployed at strategic points and traffic stops to monitor compliance and ensure safe travel.”

Superintendent Orateng also urged motorists to travel early, avoid speeding, and ensure they are well-rested before embarking on long journeys. He highlighted the importance of road safety during the busy Easter period, when traffic volumes typically increase.

Echoing these sentiments, Shakawe Police Station Commander, Superintendent Ogolotse Tampa encouraged residents to cooperate with law enforcement and suggested the formation of neighborhood watch groups to deter house break-ins and theft. “Community cooperation is vital,” he said. “Those leaving their homes should work together with neighbors to keep an eye on each other’s property.”

Meanwhile, in Ghanzi, Superintendent Dennis Zilawe stated that his station is also ready to respond to any incidents that may arise. He reiterated the call for safe travel and community vigilance, particularly emphasizing that Ghanzi’s roads, surrounded by farmlands and wildlife, posing unique challenges.

“Drivers need to be extremely cautious at night,” Superintendent Zilawe warned. “Animals can cross the roads unexpectedly, and anyone under the influence or not paying attention puts themselves and others at risk.” He also advised travelers to consider public transportation to reduce traffic congestion and encouraged vehicle owners to ensure their cars are roadworthy to avoid preventable accidents or legal trouble.

In Sehithwa, Station Commander Superintendent Molly Lebala-Moduke advised motorists to exercise caution, especially along the Kopong-Maun road, which has dangerous potholes and stray livestock.

“These are serious hazards,” she said. “Drivers must slow down and remain alert to avoid accidents. If drivers are tired on the road it is advisable to take a break and rest, even parking on the side of the road, because it is better to arrive late than not arrive at all.”

Across the board, all station commanders shared a united message: they are prepared and committed to keeping communities safe this Easter season.

“We are here to serve,” said Superintendent Orateng. “But we also need the public to meet us halfway by being responsible and cooperative.”
