Maun Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered along a road in Gxhabara ward in the early hours of September 6 and another incident involving a 42-year-old man who allegedly collapsed at a drinking spot in Thito ward.
In the first incident, the deceased was found at around 2am with serious injuries to his head and body, raising suspicion that he may have been assaulted before his death.
Confirming the incident in an interview, Maun Police Assistant Superintendent Moutlwatsi Ikobeng said the deceased also had a fractured leg.
“The deceased was found with injuries to the head and body, and one of his legs was also fractured,” said Ikobeng.
Police have since managed to locate the deceased’s family, who are from Boseja ward in Maun. Investigations are continuing as officers work to establish what happened before the man was found dead along the road.
Police have indicated that nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident. Ikobeng further appealed to members of the public who may have information about the incident to come forward or anything that could assist in bringing those responsible to justice.
“We appeal to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious around the time of the incident to come forward. Even information that may seem small can assist us in solving the case,” said Ikobeng.
He encouraged members of the public to work closely with the police and report any information
Meanwhile, Ikobeng also confirmed another death reported in Maun involving a 42-year-old man from Thito ward. According to the police, the man died after he suddenly collapsed at a drinking place in Thito ward.
Ikobeng said police received a report from witnesses that the man had been drinking with other people at the drinking spot when he suddenly collapsed. Police officers were called to the scene and rushed the man to Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital for medical attention.
However, the man was pronounced dead upon arrival by a medical doctor. Ikobeng said the body of the deceased was still at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The post-mortem is expected to help establish the exact cause of death. He said there was nothing suspicious at the scene that immediately suggested that the man had been killed or harmed by another person.
Police also found no visible injuries on the man’s body. Ikobeng said the circumstances surrounding the second death were therefore still subject to the outcome of the post-mortem examination.
The two incidents come as police continue to urge members of the public to report suspicious activities and provide information that could help prevent and solve crime in the community. Ikobeng encouraged members of the public not to remain silent when they witness incidents that could assist investigations.
“Community members are our eyes and ears on the ground. We urge them to share information with the police so that together we can keep our communities safe,” he said.
