Police, Prisons Lead Netball Division A League

Date:

The Botswana Netball Association Division A League returned with high energy in Week 2, hosted in Francistown over the weekend. The round produced commanding displays from Police and Prisons, while Maun Heroes endured another challenging outing in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

The Police men’s side set the tone for the weekend, demolishing Maun Heroes 71–5 in a dominant showing that highlighted their attacking strength and tactical discipline. Prisons were equally impressive, defeating Thunderbolts 65–13 before overcoming Tafic 44–28, keeping their unbeaten streak alive and solidifying their place near the top of the standings.

In other results, BDF Cats edged Notwane 41–38 in a thrilling encounter, while NICO registered a convincing 42–12 win over Uprising Stars before falling 34–45 to Tafic. The men’s Division A log now sees BDF and Prisons tied at the summit with three wins each, followed closely by Police and Tafic.

For the Maun Heroes men, the Francistown leg proved difficult as they remained winless after three matches, managing 39 goals while conceding 139. The team will be looking to regroup and find form ahead of the next round.

In the women’s division, the Police Ladies maintained their fine run with a 59–15 victory over Tafic, while Jwaneng edged Police 44–34 in a tightly contested match. BDF Cats also continued their dominance, overpowering Maun Heroes 53–12 to stay unbeaten.

After two weeks of play, BDF, Jwaneng, and Police share the top spot with six points apiece, each boasting three wins from three outings. Maun Heroes’ women’s side sits mid-table with one win and two losses, holding two points from three games.

The Francistown action followed an eventful Round 1 in Maun, which opened the season with a showcase of top-tier netball. The BDF teams dominated the opening week, leading both the men’s and women’s logs after registering three straight wins each.

In the female division, BDF finished Round 1 with a +197 goal difference, ahead of Jwaneng and Police, who also started strong and remained unbeaten. Maun Heroes, TASC, and Tafic each secured one victory, while NICO and Notwane were yet to record a win.

The male division mirrored that dominance, as BDF led with a +209 goal difference, closely followed by Prisons with three wins. Police and Tafic showed early competitiveness, while Uprising, Maun Heroes, Thunderbolts, and Notwane aimed to turn their fortunes around in the following rounds.

As the Division A League progresses, BDF, Prisons, and Police continue to set the pace, but teams like Maun Heroes will be eager to rise through the ranks and make a stronger statement in the weeks ahead.
