Police Launch Manhunt For Suspected Robbers!

Date:

Maun Police have appealed to members of the public for assistance in identifying and apprehending three-armed robbers who allegedly attacked two Chinese nationals at their residence in Boseja during the early hours of Monday morning. The suspects, who reportedly had their faces covered with balaclavas and were dressed in black clothing, allegedly made away with valuables and cash estimated to be worth thousands of pula.

Confirming the incident, Assistant Superintendent Moutlwatsi Ikobeng of Maun Police said the robbery occurred at around 0100hrs when three men, armed with a firearm and knives, attacked the two victims at their residence. According to Ikobeng, the robbers stole different valuables, some of which include cellphones and laptops valued at approximately P23,000 before taking cash in different currencies.

“The suspects took cash amounting to P2,700, US$500, €300 and ¥2,000,” said Ikobeng. He appealed to businesses and members of the public to remain vigilant, particularly those who may encounter individuals attempting to exchange unusually large amounts of foreign currency under suspicious circumstances.

Ikobeng urged anyone who may have information regarding the suspects to immediately alert the police. He stressed that such information could assist investigators in establishing whether the money is connected to the robbery. Police have not yet identified or arrested any suspects in connection with the incident, and investigations are ongoing.

The robbery is among a number of incidents recently reported to Maun Police, with authorities also investigating a break-in at Maitlamo Junior Secondary School. Ikobeng said two sewing machines valued at approximately P19,500 were stolen from the school during the early hours of Monday. He explained that the incident was discovered after the school’s security guard heard suspicious noises coming from the premises.

“When the guard went to investigate, the suspects had already left the scene,” said Ikobeng. The thieves reportedly managed to flee before the guard could identify them, leaving police with limited information about their whereabouts. Police have since launched investigations into both incidents, although no suspects have been identified so far.

Furthermore, another robbery took place recently at a restaurant in Thito ward on the same day where different items worth P10 433 were stolen. Ikobeng said the suspects were not identified as well. He also encouraged businesses, security personnel and residents to promptly report unusual movements around homes, schools and other premises, saying timely reporting could help police respond before suspects’ escape.

Members of the public with information that could assist in identifying the suspects are urged to report it to the nearest police station or provide it directly to investigating officers. Police continue to investigate the three cases as efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible get underway.
