Maun seems to hold a special place in the hearts of many poets and poetry lovers as the area has hosted some of the most memorable electrifying poetry sessions in the country. This past Saturday was no different as Poetavango hosted a poetry show at Nhabe museum.
Poetavango organized a show under the theme, “Cold Bold Winter Words.” The show was their first after two years due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
Local poets, Prophet Caribbean, Ras KK Nchirembo, Silas Strange and Mista Poke performed heart-warming poetry pieces that were about love, gospel while other were about life in general.
Another special performance was given by another multi-talented poet who goes by the stage name, Mr Vygos, who is also a guitarist and artist. The poet who used the saxophone to wow the crowd performed a song by an international artist titled ‘Perfect’ by Ed Sheeraan.
The evening was also blessed with 2 angelic voices from Karabo Rakodu and Zelda who portrayed their wonderful musical talent. The two artists sang gospel songs and RnB.
Another special part of the show was the open mike session whereby the stage was open for anyone from the audience who were eager to give a performance and show their talent. Many from the audience did not shy away from the opportunity but came on stage and gave wonderful pieces.
The session however only comprised of poets but there were no singers who showed interest. A beautiful Love piece by Killer B about a brokenhearted girl was one of the pieces that gave the crowd something to relate to.
Poetavango Chairperson Legodile Seganabeng has assured that the Poetavango events have returned and more will be coming. Seganabeng said there was a break due to the pandemic but he has since promised that going forward they will be bringing so many other bigger shows.
Poetavango recently held a writing competition award ceremony titled ‘Covid and Me’ and Shakawe Senior School student, Larona Mojwaene took first place. Maun Senior School scooped the second and third position respectively.
