Pandamatenga Murder Accused Granted Bail

Date:

A 35-year old man of Pandamatenga village, Kemmonye Nthoiwa accused for murdering his girlfriend Kemohilwe Karobe last month was this week granted bail by the Kasane Senior Magistrate Kose Makobo.

Prosecutor Sub Inspector Simasuku Pelotshwana informed court that they had just received the post mortem report of the deceased. He stated that at the moment they are waiting for the committal of the case to the High Court hence they could not oppose for him to be granted conditional bail.

The accused person had told the court that he has children and properties to look after at his residence in Pandamatenga therefore pleaded to be granted bail.

Nthoiwa was subsequently granted bail on conditions that he pays an amount of P2000 and to also bring two sureties who will also bind themselves with P2000 each. He was also ordered to attend court on all set dates and should not be brought to court on any reasonable suspicion in which violence is an element.

Particulars of the offence are that the accused person on or about the 10th day of May 2023 at or near Pandamatenga, Newstance Ward in the Chobe Administrative District of the Republic of Botswana, unlawfully caused the death of Karobe by beating her with fists on the forehead and cheek.

It is alleged that following a misunderstanding with his lover, the accused person hit his girlfriend and thereafter fled the scene.  The victim was reportedly taken to Nyangabwe Referral Hospital under critical conditions but she later succumbed to the injuries.

The accused person who was initially charged for unlawful wounding then had his count amended to murder. He will appear again in court for mention on the 21st August 2023.
