Ker & Downey Botswana’s Okuti Camp in the Moremi Gami Reserve has added Mokoro excursion to its activities. This new offering is set to enhance the guest experience in this part of the Okavango Delta, inside world renowned Moremi Game Reserve.
The new activity, that was recently launched adds to the two activities that the camp has been offering; of game drives and boat cruises, is being operated from the Muanachira Channel backflow on a wildlife rich stretch where aquatic and land animals can be sighted from a peaceful Mokoro glide.
Launching the new activity on the channel, Ker & Downey Guide Manager and Trainer Thuso Rasegojwa said the new activity, will enhance Okuti’s guest experience, from the initial two activities of game drives and boat. Mokoro remains an exciting activity in the Moremi Game Reserve, adding that the experience is an unforgettable one for the guests.
Besides the guest experience, Rasegojwa highlighted that an extra activity always requires extra work force, adding that in this instance it has created employment for a specialist guide who row the Mokoro with guests.
The area, and in particular the Muanachira back flow channel in which the activity is conducted is a wildlife rich area with some of the most elusive aquatic and semi aquatic wildlife. On the day of the launch, the team was privileged to see the rare and elusive Sitatunga.
Some other animals, including leopard have also been spotted from the serenity and comfort of the Mokoro. The activity also gives guest a personal encounter like none other – where small aquatic creatures like small frogs, crocodiles and fish are a close call from the Mokoro. Mokoro is also a perfect activity for birders, and because it’s very quiet it brings one up close and personal with all sorts of birds in this beautiful ecosystem.
“Its an exciting activity, and the guest will enjoy it. Come and enjoy this exciting moment,” Rasegojwa has since encouraged travelers and adventurers alike to take advantage of the already wildlife rich area in which Okuti is located on the Muanachira Channel to experience the new Mokoro activity.
Meanwhile one of the specialist guides – Mokoro who are pioneering the new activity, Otsileketo ‘Vicky’ Monnaatshipi expressed excitement and gratitude to his employer for giving him the opportunity to kick start and launch the activity.
“I am privileged to be one of KDB’s specialist guides to launch this activity. Come in numbers and enjoy the tranquility of the Okavango Delta water ways with well experienced specialist guides,” Monnaatshipi calls out.
The 5-star Okuti Camp, is operated by Chobe Holdings subsidiary KDB and boasts seven uniquely designed rooms (5 standard and 2 family) all overlooking the Muanachira River. The design of the camp – the main area and the rooms was inspired by the parliament of Botswana building.
