Nxamasere Man Reportedly Dies In A Brawl Over P20

Date:

A 35-year-old man of Lebodu ward in Nxamasere was allegedly killed by another 42-year-old man of the same ward on Saturday morning in a brawl over a P20 note.

The incident is said to have taken place in the early hours of Saturday during a bonfire chilling session.

According to Assistant Superintendent Babinang Banohi of Shakawe Police, the incident was reported by a 32 year old man who was also with the duo. The man reported that that they were seated around the fire when the deceased picked a P20 note and asked if anyone had dropped it but nobody came forth to claim the money.

However, Banohi said the 42 year old suspect is said to have arrived at the bonfire later on and was told about the note which he claimed it to be his and started harassing the deceased.

He added that a brawl broke out and the suspect is said to have strangled the deceased until he fell to the ground where he kicked and stepped on him until he lost consciousness. The suspect is said to have then left the scene.

Banohi said upon realizing that the deceased had been lying on the ground for some time, those who were present at the time it all happened called the police in Namasere to no avail. However the 32 year old witness is said to have then driven to Shakawe Police Station at around 6am to report the incident.

Police then rushed to the scene where they found the deceased lying on the ground and took him to JP Kavindama Hospital where he was certified dead upon arrival.

Assistant Superintendent Banohi said police then went back to Namasere in search of the suspect who was found sleeping in his house at around 9am on the same day of the incident and he was subsequently arrested.

The body of the deceased was further taken to Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital in Maun for a postmortem. Police have since urged the public to avoid escalating situations into physical altercations especially over minor disagreements as they lead to serious consequences such as this one.
