The Botswana Darts Association (BODA)’s Northern Region Darts League, which started on the 15th March 2025 and is expected to end on the 24th October has noticed a significant interest attracting a total of ten participating teams from the Northern part of Botswana.
The games kick started in different places countrywide and Orapa Darts Club won its first game 28-17 against Palapye Crew last weekend in Jwaneng. Golden Flights walloped Guns and Roses 31-14 in Selibe Phikwe, Orapa Darts Club defeated Mmabesi Darts Club 23-22 in Serowe while G3 Darts Club won 27-18 against Cruest Darts Club.
The game between Legends Darts Club and MSC Darts Club that was supposed to be played at Maun BDF Camp was postponed to a later date.
BODA Public Relations Officer Edith Magonare told Times Sport that through the league, they intend to promote and arouse interest in the game of darts as a sport in Botswana. Magonare stated that the league caters for players of all ages including under 18, under 25, senior and veterans’ categories.
Magonare further said currently they have not held the final competitions of the league due to lack of sponsorship, but they intend to run Top 8 finals in the near future, with 4 top teams from each region.
For his part, Maun’s Legendary Darts Club Captain Eltan Maeba said that as one of the participating teams their plan is to defend the league championship. He stated that just like any sport code they have conducted training sessions in order to prepare for the league.
Maeba expressed that following the resumption of the league in 2022 after Covid 19 their team has been performing well, adding that they took position two and position 1 in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
According to Maeba, during their league they have produced national team players, in the likes of young talented Kekhumo Karonda.
“Our weekend game was postponed because one player, and the driver of the visiting team got engaged with work making the team short of a player,” he said.
Meanwhile, Legendary Darts Club was formed in 2018 and started competing in the league since 2019. Currently the club does not have sponsors and depend solely on members contributions.
The participating clubs include Legends Darts Club (Maun), Orapa Darts Club (Orapa) , Guns and Roses Darts Club (Mosetse/Phikwe) , G3 Darts Club (Francistown) , Garrison Bosses Darts Club (Francistown) , MSC Darts Club (Francistown), Cruest Darts Club (Francistown), Golden Flights Darts Club (Tonota), Palapye Darts Club (Palapye) and Mmabesi Darts Club (Serowe).
