- League set to commence September 23
The Botswana Football Association (BFA) is yet to secure a sponsorship deal for the First Division League (FDL) which is expected to commence on September 23rd, 2023, with or without any sponsorship.
BFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mfolo Mfolo remains hopeful that Debswana will renew the previous sponsorship deal which has since come to an end. He revealed that they are currently in talks with the mining giant in anticipation for an agreement to be reached and new sponsorship deal sealed before the commencement of the 2023/24 season this month.
First Division South secretary Gosego Mogapi confirmed that they have received communication from the BFA that the league will resume.
“All the communication on the arrangements has been made with all teams in the Southern region regarding the commencement of the league and we are confident that we will get the sponsorship before then,” he told Times Sport.
For his part, First Division North (FDN) secretary Ishmael Modise also indicated that they have received draft fixtures noting that communication will be made with all the clubs in their region after all the due processes are done. He said the draft fixtures will still need to be approved at the season’s opening meeting for them to be endorsed.
In the North, Sankoyo Bush Bucks will start the league with an away match to Mbalakalungu on the 23rd September 2023 before welcoming Motlakase Power Dynamos at Maun Sport Complex in October 7th, 2023. Sankoyo’s first five matches will see them travel away to Green Lovers on the 14th October and welcome Calendar Stars on the 21st October before visiting the new boys on the block, Makungulupeswa FC on the 28th October 2023.
In the first week of the FDN, Santa Green will welcome Tsabotlhe FC at Pekenene ground while Motlakase travels to meet Chadibe at Palapye Sports Complex. Other fixtures will see Calendar Stars lock horns with Peace Marker at Caledron grounds while Makulupeswa will welcome the new rockies Pilikwe United at Nshakazhogwe primary school grounds. All matches will start at 1600hrs.
The southern league will resume with City Polar welcoming Young Stars at City Pollar stadium while Tlokweng United travels to Mogoditshane grounds to meet Mogoditshane fighters. At UB stadium, Notwane will fight for 3 points with UB Hawks while Prisons XI travels to Gabane to tussle Flamingo Santos. The relegated Extension Gunners will resume their first division match away to Black Forest while the Kgatleng giants, Mochudi Centre Chiefs will visit the newly promoted Desert Nxau at Tsabong VDC grounds. All matches start at 1530hrs.
