Nhabe Division One League Gets P300k Boost!

Date:

Football in the Nhabe Region has received a major financial boost after Terraworx Pty Ltd signed a three-year sponsorship agreement worth P300,000 with the Nhabe Region Football Association (NRFA), a deal expected to strengthen Division One men’s football and expand opportunities for clubs and players.

The landmark agreement, signed in Maun on Monday, commits Terraworx to investing P100,000 per season over the next three seasons. As part of the partnership, the competition will be rebranded as the Terraworx NRFA Division 1 Men’s League.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Botswana Football Association (BFA) President Mr. Oabile Thona Babitseng, who was joined by BFA National Executive Committee members Norman Sebele and Bathusi Rathari. Also present were Nhabe Regional Football Association Chairperson Matshelo Setsile, Regional Secretary Maipelo Ruth Malatlhe and Terraworx Pty Ltd Director Andrian Van der Merwe.

The sponsorship is expected to provide much-needed support for league administration, club mobilisation, prize money, marketing and branding while contributing to the long-term development of football in the Nhabe Region.

The agreement aligns with the Botswana Football Association’s efforts to attract private sector investment into football and strengthen the sport at regional and grassroots levels through sustainable partnerships.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Terraworx Director Andrian Van der Merwe reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting football development in the region, describing the agreement as the beginning of what he hopes will become a long-term relationship with the NRFA.

He said the company is eager to explore additional opportunities to work with the association in advancing football development, empowering local communities and creating lasting value for the sport.

The Botswana Football Association welcomed the partnership, saying the investment represents another important step in creating sustainable football structures and improving opportunities for clubs, players and supporters.

The three-year sponsorship is expected to provide greater financial stability for the regional league while raising the profile of Division One football in Nhabe, offering clubs a stronger platform to compete and develop talent.

The Nhabe Regional Football Association (NRFA) Division 1 League is the premier regional football competition in Botswana’s Nhabe Region, serving as a vital platform for developing grassroots talent and providing clubs with a pathway to higher levels of competition. The league brings together clubs from Maun and surrounding villages, fostering competitive football while identifying players capable of progressing to national competitions.

The competition plays a crucial role in Botswana’s football development structure, with the top-performing teams earning opportunities to compete for promotion to the national First Division North. Recent success stories, such as Ndundu Young Fighters from Shakawe securing promotion after winning the Northern Block Promotional Playoffs, demonstrate the league’s ability to produce clubs and players capable of competing at a higher level.

Beyond the men’s competition, the NRFA is also working to expand football in the region by establishing a Women’s Division 1 League and recruiting clubs from communities such as Sehithwa and Toteng. Despite facing prior sponsorship challenges, the association remains committed to strengthening grassroots football, nurturing young talent, and creating more opportunities for players, coaches, and clubs across the Nhabe region.

For the Nhabe Region Football Association, the partnership marks one of its most significant commercial agreements to date and signals growing confidence from the corporate sector in the potential of regional football to drive both sporting and community development.
