The Nhabe Regional Football Association will this weekend host a two day regional play-offs that will pit Mohembo United from Shakawe, Etsha Morning Stars from Gumare and Western Dynamites from Maun Stream against each other.
The winner of the regional championships will represent the region at the first division north play-offs to be held in Kasane at a date to be announced. The winning team from the three will play teams from Francistown, Letlhakane, and Boteti in their bid to get promoted into the Debswana First Division North next season.
Regional Secretary Maipelo Malatlhe told Times Sports that the draw for the three teams will be conducted on today (Friday) in which Team A will play against Team B on Saturday at 0800hrs while Team A will play Team C at 1500hrs.
Malatlhe indicated that on Sunday, Team B will play against Team C adding that all matches will be played at Maun Sports Complex. The awarding ceremony will be done after the games with the winning team getting medals and a trophy.
Meanwhile Gumare Stream Chairperson Utlwang Salepito said his team is ready for the tournament, expressing optimism that their boys will do them proud this time around. He said his team failed to qualify last season against Maun Heroes.
Western Dynamites Coach Tobokani King said his boys are all ready and fit for the tournament despite the few who he revealed have minor injuries. The coach has however said the affected players will be ready before match day.
“We have talented and young energetic players in our team who can run full 90 minutes and can score more than 3 goals per game, something that gives us an upper hand against our opponents,” he said.
King said they will use a home ground advantage and the fan bases in Maun to make sure they play to their best come Saturday. Efforts to get comment from Mohembo United of Shakawe Stream was not successful as their phones were not going through.
