Ngurungu Maintains Steady-Climb Trajectory

Date:

  • Tonota FC stretches Lead to 10 points

Sankoyo Bush Bucks (Ngurungu) has continued its steady climb with a 1–0 away win over Tshikinyega Tigers FC in the First Division North Football League moving into sixth place on 24 points, level with BR Highlanders FC, who also have a game in hand.

This as the title race took a decisive turn over the weekend as Tonota FC extended its dominance at the summit following Match Week 18 action. Tonota continued the unbeaten march with a 2–1 victory over Mbalakalungu SC, moving to 44 points from 18 matches. With 13 wins and five draws, they remain the only unbeaten side in the division and now hold a commanding 10-point lead at the top. Their defensive solidity remains a hallmark of their campaign, having conceded just 10 goals while scoring 28.

Second-placed Enesia FC delivered one of the standout performances of the weekend, thrashing Ferry Wanderers SC 3–0 to climb to 34 points. The emphatic victory strengthened their grip on second place and improved their goal difference to +16, the second-best in the league behind Tonota.

Tsabotlhe FC remains third on 31 points after a 2–2 draw with JJ United FC in a competitive encounter that saw both sides share the spoils. Meanwhile, fourth-placed Ndundu Young Fighters SC did not feature in Week 18 action, as their match against BR Highlanders FC was marked as not played.        Ndundu remain on 30 points but have a game in hand that could prove crucial in the race for second place.

Eleven Angels FC and Motlakase Power FC played out a goalless draw, leaving Eleven Angels seventh on 22 points while Motlakase remain second from bottom with 11.

At the foot of the table, Tshikinyega Tigers FC remain rooted in last position with 10 points after suffering their 12th defeat of the season. Mbalakalungu SC also remain under pressure in 10th place with 17 points following their narrow loss to the league leaders.

With 18 weeks completed for most teams, Tonota FC’s 10-point cushion places them firmly in control of the promotion race. However, with Ndundu Young Fighters SC and BR Highlanders FC still to play their outstanding fixture, the battle for second and third positions remains tightly contested.

As the season moves deeper into its decisive phase, Tonota appears increasingly difficult to catch but in football, momentum can shift quickly, and the chasing pack will be hoping for a late twist in the campaign.
