Champions of the Chobe Regional Football Association (CHORFA) women’s league for the 2022/2023 season, Panda United are headed for the DTCB Northern block playoffs to be up against Orapa All Stars from Boteti Region and Heritage Academy from Francistown.
The playoffs will be held from the 10th -11th June 2023 in Orapa and the winner amongst the three will qualify for the DTCB Top Tournament scheduled for the 8th July 2023 in Gaborone.
After being crowned champions of the CHORFA women’s league Panda United will then represent Chobe at the regional playoffs. The club won the league with 25 points garnered from the 10 games played out of which they won eight, drew one and lost one.
The CHORFA women’ league was newly established towards the commencement of the 2022/2023 season and all the six teams that participated in it were also newly formed. The teams included Panda United, Plateau, Tornado, Vision Girls, Chobe United and Fighters.
Panda United coach Louis Moyo told Times Sport that as a newly established team they are not going to the playoffs to win but to benchmark as they are still learning how things are done with an aim to apply that in the next coming seasons.
Moyo noted that the benchmarking will help the club remain strong and competitive going forward.
As a new club, the coach revealed that their main challenge was financial constraints highlighting that transport costs for their away games was very high. He also stated that their costs cover the purchase of soccer boots and meals for players.
As for the league in general Moyo appreciated that all went very well despite it being newly established. He however, lamented that the support from the community was not convincing noting that this was because most of the people were not used to the women’s league. Moyo has since thanked the parents for allowing their children to play in the league.
