The newly promoted Ndundu Young Fighters FC from Shakawe got off to a good start, thrashing the experienced Mbalakalungu FC 2-1 in their first match of the First Division North League last Saturday in Shakawe.
In all the games that have been played during the first week of the First Division North League, Ndundu is the only team that has managed to secure maximum of two goals registering three points.
Enesia FC and JJ United have also won their first games 1-0 against Eleven Angels and Tshikinyega Tigers respectively to secure three points.
BR Highlanders and Sankoyo Bush Bucks, Motlakase Power and Tsabotlhe have registered one point each following 1-1 draw in their games. Ferry Wonderers and Tonota FC have also secured one point following a nil-nil draw. Mbalakalungu, Eleven Angels and Tshikinyega Fc have not registered points after losing their first games.
In an interview, Ndundu FC Coach, Mothathobi Chombo has attributed their victory to early preparations and a series of pre-season games. Chombo noted that they played different tournaments in Botswana and Namibia which exposed their players to different conditions.
He is of the view that through those tournaments his players have managed to gain experience, confidence and the spirit to fight for victory. According to Chombo, the team has signed a maximum of five players to beef up the squad for this season.
Chombo also attributed their win against Mbalakalungu to the support from members of the community, stating that their support boosted the players’ morale and confidence.
As Ndundu prepares for its second match of the league this coming Saturday, Chombo stated that they are working on rectifying the mistakes from their previous game.
“We are new in the league so we do not understand some of the teams that we are going to be facing, so the best thing is to do all our best to ensure that we win,” he said.
