Murdered Granny’s Son Reserve Opinion On Killers’ Bail

Date:

The son to late Elicah Fana, 73-year-old granny of Makobo, who was allegedly murdered by her daughter and granddaughter in July this year, pleaded with Francistown Magistrate Court to excuse him from having any say on whether the two accused persons should be granted bail or not.

“I fear for my life as we speak, because had these two not been apprehended, I am still wondering what their motive was. Prior to burying my mother, my sister and her daughter were not showing any remorse at all, something which I could not understand,” explained Elliot Fana, on Tuesday morning before Principal Magistrate Thapelo Buang.

According to him, the reason behind their lack of grief and remorse was because they knew they had a hand in the brutal cold-blooded murder of his mother.

“So, for the court to ask me about whether these two should be given bail or not, I would rather not have a say in that decision. I am afraid of my sister and her daughter; I do not what they would do to me after this court appearance.”

Fana concluded that he leaves the decision of bail to the court and for the law to take its course without his interference.

Fana said he is traumatised and still trying to heal from the ultimate demise of his mother. “This issue makes me sick and me being called es here affects my mental health.”

54-year-old Ruth Fana and her daughter Onalenna Fana’s defense attorney Blessing Ntobedzi has proposed conditional bail for his clients. He suggested amongst others for them to bind themselves with P5 000 each and they both avail two sureties each. He has been ordered to stay away from going to Makobo, interact with witnesses and interfere with investigations.

Principal Magistrate Buang is expected to deliver bail ruling on the matter this Friday.

Meanwhile, state prosecution told the court that investigations are complete and they are only awaiting forensic analysis results of the murder case.
