Munitenge Fun Run Promotes Health And Wellness

Date:

Chobe Arts Association will host the inaugural Munintenge 10km Fun Run at Kavimba village grounds on the 22nd August 2026 to promote health and wellness.

Through the event, the Chobe Arts Association intends to support Basubiya Paramount Chief, Munitenge Lawrence Liswaani Sinvula III in his unwavering fight to building a healthier and stronger community. Some of the stakeholders supporting the event include the National AIDS and Health Promotion Agency (NAHPA) and Makgabaneng organisation.

Sinvula III will be the Chief Walker in this non-competitive community event which involves road running and walking from Mabele village to Kavimba. The registration for participating in the event is free.

The officials from the government, private departments and other stakeholders have been invited to take part in the event.

In an interview, the event Coordinator Rancheke Rancheke said that traditional leaders serve as vital anchors of social cohesion therefore they have engaged Sinvula III to spread the message about the importance of health and wellness.

According to him, traditional leaders from other villages within the Chobe District have been invited to the event. Rancheke stated that members of the public will be sensitised about the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), HIV/AIDS and gender-based violence (GBV) which are major health and social challenges.

“The Paramount Chief and members of the community have recognised the importance of this event and the Paramount has promised to walk together with the participants from Mabele to Kavimba during the event,” he said.

Rancheke has called on the business community and different stakeholders to support the event in order to make it a success. He revealed that currently they have received P10, 000.000 donation from Wildlife Island Pty ltd to support the event.

Rancheke stated that in order to raise funds they are currently selling merchandise and funds raised through the sale will be dispensed to the Paramount Chief to facilitate charity initiatives within the district.

Rancheke further indicated that their intention is to host the event annually, citing that some of the new items will be introduced as the event grows.

For his part, Sinvula III has also stressed the importance of the event, citing that it would sensitise members of the public about healthy lifestyles and foster social bonds. He stated that NCDs are a major challenge around the country therefore it is important to educate the public on how they can protect themselves from these diseases.

He noted that the availability of the stalls would allow members of the public to receive direct health screenings, physical health guidance, connecting participants with local health providers. Sinvula III explained that as a leader his responsibility is to spearhead activities that support human development hence he decided to become part of the initiative.

He encouraged members of the community to attend the event and take responsibility of their health.
