Golden Door Sports Agency will host the second edition of the Botswana International Cross Country (BICC) on February 8th at Glody Dube International School and Sport Academy in Modipane.

The show will be divided into different categories which include 10km Senior Men, 10km Senior Women, 8km Junior Men, 6km Junior Women, 6km Youth Boys, 4km Youth Girls, 8km Mixed (X) Relay and 4*2 km Corporate Teams Relay.

Golden Door Sports Agency Director Glody Dube has said that through the event they intend to attract and expose more athletes to the sport for experience. He stated that as a way of attracting more runners into the show, the participants will not be required to pay a registration fee, while spectators (adults and children), will be charged P20 and P10 entrance fee respectively.

Dube noted that the show is very crucial as it is a qualifying event for the World Athletics Cross Country Championships that will be held in Tallahassee in Florida, USA, on 10 January 2026.

He said that it also serves as a qualifying event for the Regional Cross Country events happening this year.

According to Dube, the show plays a meaningful role in promoting athletics and also enables the athletes to earn an income through the prize money. He noted that it also empowers local businesses as members of the community have an opportunity to sell their products during the event.

“Expect this year’s event to grow as compared to the previous one in terms of the number of participating runners and the number of sponsors, our intention is to resolve the challenges that we faced in the previous event’’ he said.

He further stated that the previous event had attracted runners from as far as France and in this year’s event more runners from other countries have shown interest as the registration process is currently on going.

Dube has revealed that they are still in consultations with FNBB who sponsored the first edition of the event that was held in Gaborone at a tune of P500, 000. He indicated that they are optimistic that more sponsors will come in and support the event to make it a success.
