Popularly known for his comedy videos on social media and his other love of selling cooked Tswii across Botswana, Maun born and bred comedian Modidima Johane who goes by the name Obzar Modidima in the entertainment scene has formally welcomed his wife to his home village of Maun over the weekend.
Maipelo Johane was welcomed to her new home in Matlapana ward in a wedding that attracted thousands of people from all over the country including local celebrities. This followed their marriage celebration in May in Selebi- Phikwe.
‘Go gorosa ngwetsi’ is a traditional practice where a wife after marriage, is brought to the groom’s home village. The new wife is then taught the local culture, how to cook the tribe’s food, the challenges she might face in their marriage, and how to deal with them.
The comedian said the arrival of his wife to her new home was massive as many people including his social media followers, relatives, church mates and other celebrities came to witness and support him.
He added that people’s support was shown by the way the event was packed. The event was blessed with the presence of artists that included Mc Maswe, Franco, Koolcat Motyiko, Lentswe The Comedian, Mabatho, Lebitso Volcano and Mdala Ka Tje.
The married couple made a grand entrance as they were dropped off by a helicopter from Nature Trend Travel in front of the yard. Modidima said one of his big supporters the Director of Lawa Holdings Transport Company Grace Mengwe offered one of her 65-seater buses to carry guests to his’s residence in Matlapaneng where the event was held.
Meanwhile, guest speaker, Batawana acting Paramount Chief, Kgosi Kealetile Moremi described Modidima as a talented young man who has so many followers and makes the Ngamiland District stand out, and also attracting tourists to the area.
She also acknowledged Modidima’s pursuit in taking the area’s traditional delicacy -Tswii to the different parts of the country to allow other Batswana of different cultures to have a taste of it.
