Minister of Defence and Security, Kagiso Mmusi has urged the Saint Augustine Catholic church in Maun to consider building a cathedral in the tourism capital so as to attract religious tourists as well as generate substantial local economic benefits.
Speaking during the church’s thanksgiving ceremony service commonly known as ‘Thobo’ over the weekend, Mmusi indicated that Maun is a tourism destination of choice, therefore a cathedral in the area would be ideal as it will serve as an attraction to tourists who visit the Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve through to the Savuti and Chobe National Park.
He believes that the facility built in Maun would be perfectly placed more so that some tourists do not only come to appreciate the beauty of flora and fauna, but also seek out new experiences, others religion based,
Meanwhile, Mmusi has also pleaded with the church to help develop and produce more local priests who would bring lasting solutions to social challenges adding that the church has more foreign priests therefore Batswana should always learn from them.
