Police in Sehithwa have launched an investigation into a case involving the alleged defilement and impregnation of a 16-year-old girl by her 22-year-old cousin.
According to Superintendent Molly Moduke, the Station Commander of Sehithwa Police, the incident was reported on Monday after a teacher from Maun Secondary School alerted authorities.
Superintendent Moduke revealed that investigations revealed that the alleged sexual encounter occurred in January 2025. The suspect, a relative of the victim, is believed to have taken advantage of the minor while staying within the same household. Police are continuing investigations and have not disclosed whether the suspect is currently in custody.
In a separate incident, Shakawe police are dealing with a suspected poaching case involving giraffe meat. Superintendent Ogolotse Tampa confirmed that on Sunday, a 46-year-old man was stopped on a dirt road between Kauxuma and Mohembo West by wildlife officers. Upon searching the vehicle, officials discovered a sack containing dried meat believed to be from a giraffe.
The suspect allegedly led the officers to a location where he had acquired the meat, which resulted in the arrest of four other men. At the site, authorities recovered additional quantities of dried meat and a giraffe pelt, linking the group to illegal hunting activities.
Superintendent Tampa disclosed that the suspects, aged 21, 24, 27, and 46, are all from the Chukuma-Kaxuama area. He also expressed concern about a rising trend in wildlife poaching, noting a separate case reported three weeks earlier in the same region where a group of men was found in possession of suspected lion parts, including a jaw, meat, and fat. These items have been sent to the lab for confirmation.
Tampa issued a stern warning to residents, urging them to respect wildlife protection laws. “These animals are part of our national heritage and attract tourism that benefits our communities. Hunting without permits is a serious crime, especially in conservation zones,” he said.
